Sustainability Mission

The Citizenry
The Citizenry is a retailer that prioritizes people and the planet, offering home goods with soul and a story. They celebrate the individuals behind their products, fostering connections across cultures and continents. Their designs combine ethical craftsmanship with elevated design, guaranteeing fair trade processes and paying double the wage requirement. Partnering with master artisans, they create exclusive collections using all-natural materials and age-old craft techniques that have low carbon emissions and zero waste. The Citizenry is committed to sustainability, sourcing organic cotton, ensuring nontoxic bedding, responsibly sourcing wood products, and ethically sourcing wool and leather materials.
Hem
Hem is committed to sustainability by focusing on four key areas: local production, logistics, build quality and materials. Production takes place in Europe and India, where the highest environmental and social standards are adhered to throughout the supply chain. Logistics are optimized with full truckloads and ocean containers, while build quality is achieved with durable fabrics and a 0% claims target. Materials are carefully selected for quality and sustainability standards; steel is made from at least 20% recycled content, fabrics are EcoTex or Ecolabel certified, leathers produced in accordance with international standards for animal welfare, foam is REACH certified, and timber responsibly sourced within the EU.

Sustainable Product Certifications

The Citizenry offers several product certifications, including GOTS Certified, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, FSC Certified, and SVLK Timber Legality Verification. These certifications ensure that some of their products meet specific environmental and ethical standards. On the other hand, Hem has different certifications for their products, such as EcoTex, Ecolabel, REACH, and FSC Certified. These certifications demonstrate Hem's commitment to sustainability and product safety. It is important to note that neither retailer is certified themselves; rather, only some of their products have these certifications.
